Time changes everything, and that’s certainly the case with KWSB. Gone are the days of reel-to-reel and cart machines. Even CD's are quickly becoming a relic as they're replaced by digital music files. In fact, you may walk into the station and learn that it’s a computer, not a student, playing the songs you’re hearing on 91.1FM.
Roughly 25-50 students volunteer their time at today’s KWSB. The majority are enrolled in Communication and Theatre (COTH) 261: Broadcast and Media Production. Over the last decade, significant curriculum changes have been made to enhance the learning experience for students taking KWSB-related courses for college credit. Those changes include lectures about today’s broadcast industry and a self-paced training protocol.
Here are more interesting facts about today’s KWSB:
The KWSB studios can still be found on the first floor of Taylor Hall, but probably not for long. The Colorado State Legislature approved a $24 million renovation of Taylor Hall in 2008. Project completion is currently scheduled for 2012. Though still in the planning stages, it’s likely KWSB will be moved to the third floor of Taylor Hall and will be located in close proximity to other student media.
